The Endless Surprises of Vincent van Gogh's Art

A self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh was discovered on the back of Head of a Peasant Woman, shown below. Using x-rays, conservators at the National Galleries of Scotland found the self-portrait behind a piece of cardboard and glue, which had likely been applied before framing. The discovery was the latest example of how van Gogh's art continues to yield surprises more than 100 years after his death.
